As a resident of Westchester, are you aware of what the "X" is for in LAX?
- To find the historical basis about how the X in LAX, the name of the airport in Westchester, Los Angeles, CA, came to be, you have to go back to before the 1930s. At that time, existing airports used a two-letter abbreviation based on the weather station at each airport. Back then, LA served as the designation for the Los Angeles International Airport here in Westchester, CA. But as the aviation industry began growing at such a rapid rate, the identifying designations had to be expanded to 3 letters by the 1950s. So LA became LAX. The letter “X” doesn't have any specific meaning otherwise. A rather anti-climactic piece of trivia. Sorry, but there really aren't many other notable historical bits about Westchester to share except for Howard Hughes and there isn't enough room or time for that here.
